UC San Diego Bassist and Professor Mark Dresser Profiled
Dresser discusses telematics:
The piazza of modern life is undoubtedly electronic. As we once gathered in the open public square, so we now meet in the etheric netherworld of the Internet, where images, reflections and representations of the real substitute for what was once concrete.
This shift has altered the face of meaning, such that now we are overwhelmed by multiplicities of meaning. But, to bassist extraordinaire Mark Dresser, this is all good. He is fascinated by the slippage of time, space and meaning, and the artistic possibilities inherent in the electronic age.
