ETHEL touring down under (part 1)
Greetings from Tasmania! We're in the middle of our two week trip to Sydney, Hobart, Launceston, and Port Arthur.Photos by Dave Cook:
We started out with a concert in Sydney Opera House's Utzon Room:

Then on to Hobart (on the island of Tasmania). Hobart has a charming, old-world feel to it:

This morning we played on the radio:
Hobart 2
And rehearsed John King's concerto with the local conductor, Peter Tanfield. We're here as part of the Ten Days on the Island Festival, and we're also having a blast working with local conservatory students.
Hobart 3
Hobart has a great harbor. Many of the ships that sail to Antarctica stop here to refuel, etc.
Hobart 4
We had an interesting talk with some members of the radical environmental group Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. This is their ship:
Hobart 5
Click here to see dramatic footage of this very ship ramming into a Japanese whaling ship!
Meanwhile, back at home, Leah has been rosining her bow:
