In Performance: Beyond the Fringe
In yesterday's Washington Post: Operas Taking Fringe Seriously, by Anne Midgette. It slipped my mind that I neglected to post this review yesterday. But in the course of the day, I got an e-mail letting me know that both of the operas reviewed here, which appeared at the Capital Fringe Festival, are products of Catholic University's master's program in stage composition, which Andrew Earle Simpson founded in 2005. Here, at least, is one clear example of an educational program creating new opportunities. I'll be interested to see if it has had a larger effect on the production of new opera in the DC area.
