Expat
During the fall of 1989 I resolved to become an expat. I had moved to France, was living at the Camargo Foundation, in Cassis, having sublet my apartment on Saint Mark's Place to one of my students, and cavalierly sprung at the last moment on Joan Tower — the chair of the music department at Bard College, where for five years I had been teaching part time — the news that I wasn't coming back in the autumn. 'How long will you be gone?' she asked. 'Forever,' I vowed, savoring the promise. 'Well, let's take it one semester at a time,' she answered. 'I'll find someone to take your place. Just let me know in a few months whether you'll be back.'Originally from 'notes' a composer's life by daron hagen, ReBlogged by newmusicrebloggers on Aug 26, 2009 at 05:11 PM
