Anthony Braxton: Music for String Quartet

This year's Huddersfield Music Festival featured a number of my favorites: James Dillon, Emmanuel Nunes, Musica Electronica Viva, Louis Andriessen and Anthony Braxton. The latter's composed music was featured on several programs, including premieres of new piano works played by Geneviève Foccroulle, whose multi-CD set of the composer's piano works on the Leo label was a milestone in the documentation of Braxton's notated music.

Since that (expensive) Leo set was a limited edition and is now unavailable, I hope to post some of Braxton's piano music in the future. This post is a needledrop of a Sound Aspects LP from 1986, with the Robert Schumann String Quartet. Braxton's piece for String Quartet (the title appears in the artwork above) appears in two versions, the first with Braxton on alto saxophone, the second for quartet alone. The remainder of each side is filled with brief composed solo alto pieces. I've included a complete scan of the LP jacket and insert with all the information. The post, in FLAC and not declicked, is HERE.

Update (6 December 2009): I have uploaded the LP insert, which includes the composer's notes on his string quartet. If you have already downloaded the music and LP jacket scans, please take this opportunity to get the insert, which can be downloaded separately.
